Why "A Piece Of Freedom" Was Created...
Do you remember where you were on September 11, 2001? It was a day that many will never forget. It was also a day when everyone across America stood together in solidarity with New York City - especially its first responders.
On that day, 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers lost their lives. These men and women, along with thousands of other first responders, braved unthinkable conditions to save others. Their heroic actions inspired an entire nation and embodied what it means to be a proud American.
In 2006, construction began on a new tower. Colloquially known as the "Freedom Tower", this new skyscraper became the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at 104 floors. It was opened to the public on November 3, 2014 as "One World Trade Center".
During construction of the new tower, a small supply of scrap steel was acquired for the creation of our A Piece of Freedom medallions. Each medallion is handcrafted from actual Freedom Tower steel. The dark areas surrounding the steel represent the ash and dust that covered the sky on September 11th. The steel, which has been shaped into the form of the Freedom Tower, rises up through the darkness, standing tall like the American Spirit.
On the back of each medallion, there is a Christian cross - one of the oldest symbols of strength and resilience. Underneath, there is an inscription that reads "God Bless America's Heroes," along with the medallion's individual product number. 1
